We have been fans of The Portobello Bookshop long before opening S&G Porty, so we are delighted we are collaborating with them with our Bookclub.
Alongside Portobello Books we will be bringing you a series of brilliant reads, beautiful wines and seasonal cheese hosted in Smith & Gertrude Portobello once a month.
The Wine & Cheese Book Club will be hosted in our back room space in Portobello by Jenna & Lily from Portobello Books.
The cost of your ticket includes the following:
- A copy of that months quite brilliant book club book (please collect from Portobello Books as soon as you have booked)
- A glass of wine (or soft drink) on arrival to help get the conversation started
- Cheese. Lots of cheese to keep the discussion flowing
For July we have selected Dark Like Under by Alice Chadwick
Midnight, a man on a solitary path, and two teenagers walk the weir. A day in an English school in the 1980s unfolds in the aftermath of the death of a beloved teacher, Mr Ardennes. But while students and teachers grapple with this sudden loss, normal life, as it must, continues. Lessons, flirtations, arguments. The clock ticks on. At the heart of it all is Tin. Burning bright with defiance, feared and adored in equal measure – and potentially betrayed by best friend Robin and boyfriend Jonah. As the heat of the baking hot day intensifies, rivalries and hormones simmer, and old secrets surface.
