Benevolent Neglect

Whole Cluster Syrah, Benevolent Neglect, 2017

£50.00 Regular price

This is, no doubt, one of our favourite wines on the list today. Established by east coast escapees, Ben Brenner and Matt Nagy. Matt had previously produced 11 100-point wines at Maybach, whilst Ben works at Rutherford Wine Co. As the name suggests, they work with as little intervention as possible, “to be the reliable translator from what was made in the vineyard from sun, water and soil, and gently let it become finest wine possible.”

Made in only the best vintages, the Whole Cluster Syrah has an invigorating nose of violets, black olives, both fresh and tapenade and sweet loose leaf tea. Squashy mulberries, with a surprisingly lithe, blue and black fruited palate with a dark spiced element - dark chocolate dipped orange peel and pot pourri. Exceptionally smooth and complete, even at this young age. Lavish and lingering.
